Today I’m grateful for my Dad and Sue’s dog, Josie.
Dogs always make me smile. I was driving home the other evening feeling blue and I saw a dog with his head out the window and just living life to its fullest. It was a reminder to me that I need to spend a little more time with my head out that window.
I love my Riley Pug- all 23 pounds and eleven years. In fact, he’s sitting next to me now, quietly snoring and snuggly. But, he’s getting a little slower and a little settled in his ways. Seems like every older dog’s right. So sometimes, when I have the chance to spend time with a puppy who wants to play, cuddle, and please even the smallest little people, I love every moment.
Josie is a Goldendoodle so has part Golden Retriever and part Poodle. At least we think- she never ceases to surprise anyone.
Josie still tries to sit in laps. She’s eternally optimistic and forever loving. After all, she’s a loyal puppy.

Riley likes all of the nieces and nephews, but he can only play so much. Again- expected and understandable. He’s played with me all his life and deserves some rest now and then. So it’s fun to see Josie’s gentle nature and playful spirit when she’s with the kids.

She plays hide and seek with the kids- even if she’s a bit confused as her playmates disappear and reappear.
She always, without a doubt, knows when the kids want to be chased or when they want to chase. She knows when she needs to be pet and when she needs to romp. There is something so sweet and special about this big ol’ puppy.
So on those days, when i have to actively seek out what I’m grateful about or what is sweet and tender in the world- may I always remember Josie’s sweet kisses and playful nature.
She makes me grateful.
