Today I’m feeling grateful for community.

Today in the hot and humid sunshine I walked around a track some twenty-five or so times for the Relay for Life. The event’s purpose is to bring awareness to cancer research and prevention.

The event is put on by a group of people who are dedicated to the cause. This is my fourth year participating in the local event.

Our team is led by two of my coworkers and they are amazing. They have the whole process figured out to a science. They know timing, what to bring, how to decorate, how to recruit team members, and the other tricks learned only from years of doing this event.

But what I found amazing today is the community that gathers. There are people of all ages and all backgrounds.  They come together because they know someone who has died or they know someone or are themselves someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. Or they just want to fight the terrible disease that is cancer.

There is something powerful about a group who comes together for a common goal. And there is an energy that I can’t put my finger on- but an energy that creates hope and unity.  So today- I’m grateful for the community that gathered and that I could be a part of something close to my and many hearts.

  1. The community gathered was strengthened by the gifts your spirit has brought to this event over the past several years….Thank You Nina for walking on behalf of so many including my Dad!
