It’s too easy to let time go by without writing in the blog. Life gets in the way. So for today- just to get my toes wet again in the blogosphere…I am revisiting my gratefuls.

Today, I am grateful for what’s beyond the horizon.

I used to look out at the Puget Sound from my Grandmother and Grandfather’s living room window and ponder what was at the horizon. I always assumed Japan simply because that’s what made sense to me at the time. I’d ask Grandpa, “Can’t we just swim to Japan?” He said we could try, but didn’t think we would have our passports when we arrived. No where to put it in our swimsuits. So we’d just have to swim back to his house.

From a window at work, I often look at the horizon and see mountains or clouds. I think what’s just beyond what I can see. Who is there? What is happening? It’s full of possibilities.

When we travel around Oregon, we see so much beauty that is always there, but just beyond our sights. This weekend as we traveled home from Sisters, Oregon, I thought a lot about the beauty we passed. It’s always there, but just beyond what we can see from home. The snow has been on the ground, but is just beyond the horizon. There are always deer grazing somewhere in a field, but is just beyond the horizon of where I can see. There are fields of grass growing, but it’s just beyond my horizon.

When January 1, 2015 struck, I didn’t know what was beyond the horizon- time wise. I didn’t know what even January 2nd would bring. And almost a year later, I know that beyond that horizon there was new life, tragic heartbreaking losses, new and lost friendships, health issues, moves, and so much more.

I wonder what’s beyond the horizon beginning in 2016? From experience, I know there will be the good and the bad. But, I’m grateful for that horizon and the hope for what’s beyond.
