My dearest Finley James turned 8 months old.

8 months! With each passing month, we get a little bit further from the day of his birth when he burst into our lives. I grieve the days where I could hold him with one hand and he was just so new to the world. On the other hand, with each day I know him, I feel more and more love. I don’t have a “full” line on my love- I have a feeling it will continue to fill every day that I am alive.

He’s growing into more of a toddler than a baby, but I love the moments where he collapses all his weight onto me and falls asleep or surrenders all of his energy into my arms.

His infancy may be fading, but with everyday, it feels like he’s doing something new or differently. Everyday is a new discovery.

He continues to teeth- his six front teeth are ready to bite! He likes to tap his teeth as I’m sure it’s quite the new sensation.

He smiles constantly. Sometimes I catch him looking at me and when I look at him and smile, his grin breaks out from ear to ear. Those are the moments.

His current favorites include Sophie the Giraffe, a snuggly bunny, a blue teether, his grandparents, and food.

He can’t crawl quite yet but does get up on all fours and revs his engine by rocking back and forth. He can move backwards like a snake- and can do a fast 360. He’s pretty mobile for a little guy not crawling.

He talks constantly. Sometimes he sounds animated, sometimes happy, sometimes outraged- but he loves the sound of his voice. I love it too.

Eight months already- it’s not even a year and it feels like he’s been the central figure in my life forever.

Love you Finn.
